Classic Rallying 1958/59 Ref: 1015 Price: 14.99
AGAINST THE CLOCK 1958 One of the great classic rallies of all time, the 1958 Alpine took in seventy of Europe's best passes, including the legendary Stelvio, Mont Ventu, the Vivione and the Gavia. Truly gruelling, only twenty five of the sixty four starters made the finish, but twenty of these were British cars, four Italian and one French. Only fourteen managed to keep a clean sheet and qualify for the coveted Coup des Alpes. These are Frog-Sprites, A 90s, Standard 10s, Cobras and Healeys mixing it with Volves, Citroen DS', Alfa Romeos and TR3s.
THE ALPINE RALLY 1959 The 1959 Alpine Rally is described as 'having enough hill-climbs to constitute a major hill-climb championship in its own right', and features the debut of the Triumph Herald which blossomed briefly before the Minis came on the scene. 1959 again proved the supremacy of British cars in this type of event, with six of the nine Coupes des Alpes going to home produced vehicles. This rally is also something of a rarity with the route taking the cars through Austria to Innsbruck before passing on to Merano in Italy.
